10 February 2008

Usually I'd be at the 'lodge' on a Sunday morning, but since the breakup, I've been staying closer to home. It looks like Emily and her boyfriend will be getting back together, so our daily routines will once again be changing. There's a lot of things I could say at this point, but, I'll keep it short. I've always liked Emily's boyfriend, and if I had to make a choice, I'd say he's a good one. I just wish they weren't so young. And it was so hard to see her heart broken once, and know that it's a good possibility it will happen again. If you were to ask me what causes the most conflict and heartache in my life, I'd have to say it's being the mother of a strong-willed teenage daughter. If you asked Emily, it would be having me as her mother. Really. And that's all I'm saying for now.

We went to the 'not' surprise party for my Cousin Jill last night. We were a little late, so I put the Fumi salad in the kitchen and joined the rest of the guests to wait for Jill's arrival. I hadn't mixed the dressing with the rest of the ingredients because you do that at the last minute. I guess Emily walked over to the food table in the dining room because she came over to me and said, Mom, someone else made Fumi salad. What? I walked over, and sure enough, there it was. First thought? I have to blog about this! So, after the guest of honor arrived, I put the salad in my car. I was just bringing an appetizer to the book club meeting today. Now it'll be that and salad. Bonus!

Time to get moving. Happy Sunday!

Raising children is the hardest job there is! Em is at the hardest age right now, which makes for the most conflict between mother and daughter. But I know you already know this.

Hang in there. You two have a great foundation and it will get you through the tough times.

That is funny about the salad, and cool you can use for the book club!

Have a nice day.

Cheryl, I'm so right there with you. It's hell to watch you kids heart be broken, and that doesn't change - even when they are 28. Janelle likes to joke that everytime she was "dumped", her word, not mine - that I took her shopping. We always had a "screw him" day of shopping. Still do, actually. But anyway, I don't think it's ever anything us mothers get used to, and there seems to be so many broken hearts these days, they start out too young. Hang in.

Just pray that next time it's Emily who decides to call it quits. Just keep reminding her that she's worth more than bad treatment. I don't know what caused the breakup but if she sees it happening again she should bail out.

Good call on the salad.

I once heard someone relate raising teenagers to trying to nail Jell-O to a tree. I don't know if you'd go that far, but I know the teenage years are just chock full of ups and downs. She is lucky to have you so close for all of it.

Sounds like a yummy book meeting! I hope you enjoyed the afternoon.

I get those 'I have to blog this' moments too - what I find really fun is when something happens now and Partner will look at me and say "your not going to blog this are you ?" Who me ? of course not. smirk.

I'm home from AZ, and actually just going to say hi and congratulations to EM for the reconnection with her boyfriend..you are a good mom that is for sure!! even if you know writing on the walls, you still allow the words to write themselves...
pretty remarkable!

I'm home like I said, but awfully sick, heading to bed so I'll catch up with you in the morning!!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth

Teenagers - that is the hardest time. I'd rather deal with the terrible two's anyday. Teenagers do grow up though and you learn that they really did appriciate all you did for them.
Sounds like you are doing a great job!!

Hi Cheryl, I just stopped by to thank you so much for visiting my blog today. I see you at so many different blogs I'm surprised I haven't been here before. I have two 13 year olds (14 in June) and the attitudes and moods are already starting. Thank goodness they don't seem interested in boys right now but I'm sure that day will come soon enough. Their hearts getting broken is the thing I dread above all else.

I would love to visit again soon. Take care.

I so admire the relationship you have with your daughter. You are so "there" for her, you know? If I ever have a daughter, that is how I want to be. As it is, I'll be there for my boys as much as they'll let me.

That's an unusual salad, it's odd that two people would bring it!

Thanks for checking in on me.. It's nice to say I was simply busy! Hugs to you!

I am glad Em has you and you have her.

I remember going through some angst with my mom in my teen years and am so very grateful she was there for me every step of the way and loved me no matter what.

As I entered college I realized how great she was and took every opportunity to let her know. I always told her I loved her and found myself calling her many times a week up until the time I had to say good-bye to her. I miss her daily. I bet yours and Em's relationship follows the same path.

How'd the book club meeting go?

I love the fact that you are so involved with Em's life. You take the time to do things with her, and also give her the freedom she needs to grow. I can only hope I'll be able to be an example to my children as you are to you daughter someday!

Thanks again for your wonderful Comments!!!
Always,
Elizabeth
