What would you do with all those extra heads?

It struck me as I was washing clothes tonight that anyone coming into my laundry room might be really surprised. I don't even notice them. I have a bunch of mannequins around the house. I keep thinking I'm going to cut them, but never get around to it. I will one day, I'm sure. In the meantime, they hang out. The one in the middle has a very harsh face. The ones on the sides are twins. Much more attractive, I think.

I used some of the techniques I learned on my clients today. They're really fundamental, and similar to the way I already cut. The skills are tools to improve the method of cutting. Fiwa asked if the salon helps with the cost of the education. Yes...they pay for half of any classes we take or shows we attend. Some of the stylists attend many, some just a few. Most of the shows and classes are sponsered or held at beauty supply distributors, and many of them are local. This weekend I'm attending the International Beauty Show at the Jacob Javots Convention Center in NYC. It's a huge trade show that takes over the entire convention center. Thousands of hairdressers, estheticians, make-up artists, nail techs, etc. attend. You see everything there. Outrageous looking people. Crazy hair. Stages are set up everywhere with platform artists cutting and coloring. I think there's over 200 classes offered. Anything you could imagine buying related to hair, skin, make-up and jewelry is for sale and at great prices. I've attended this show about 4 times over the years. This will be the first time I'm going by myself and I chose to do it that way. I like being able to do and see what I want at my own pace. I'll be driving to my cousin's house in Staten Island on Saturday after work. We'll take the ferry into Manhattan from there. They're sub-letting an apartment in the city, and that's where we'll spend the night. I'll take a cab to the show on Sunday morning and spend the day there. We'll meet up afterwards and go back to their house. I'll leave to drive home on Monday morning. It will be a whirlwind weekend.

I'm off tomorrow, and it's supposed to be a gorgeous day. I plan to be home, working outside. We'll see what the day brings.

That sounds like an awesome adventure. Living in Seattle I havn't been able to get back to NYC in 10 years now - I miss it.

I would just hold onto the head and use them for Halloween. They're pretty creepy already so it shouldn't take much to turn them into props to scare kids with. LOL ;-)

Your laundry room reminded me of a movie... Six Heads In A Duffel Bag.

Those mannequins would be a little girl's dream. Just think of all the styles she could create.

Your weekend sounds wonderful. I understand that you want to attend the Show alone - Trade shows are a personal experience. (I'd love to be there to sit in the corner and watch.) Enjoy the short visit with your cousin. Be safe and have fun.

I'm sure you will love the convention. It sounds like a dream for hairdressers!! Have fun and have a safe trip.

Taking up the sod wasn't all that hard at this time of year. Everything was pretty wet yet. I enjoy working in the yard and don't mind if it takes long.
Haven't listened to any of those books on CD yet. I'll look next time I go to the library.

If you just want to store them...I think I would wrap them up in tissue paper and put them in a decorative box (wrapped in wrapping paper)and put the box back on the shelf. It would look pretty but yet handle your storage needs.
Have a wonderful day. The sunshine is glorious here and the sky so blue...its awesome.

Ok, yes... the heads would freak me out. :)

I'm glad the salon pays some of the cost of the classes, that works out nicely. The one in NY sounds mind boggling, but I bet you get a lot out of it. I hope you enjoy your time there & your day off tomorrow.

lovins,
fiwa

I hope you're enjoying your day off today. I imagine you in your hammock after a relaxing day of yardwork. I still need to mow my lawn so badly and better get off my duff! Spring came much earlier here than in Maryland. Here's to hoping you are well and feeling okay!

OMG. This is too funny. I was at a friend's for dinner last night and when I looked down by the couch, I almost jumped.

See, there was a mannequin head on the floor in the laundry basket looking up at me.

if you have mannequins that you don't want, you can always donate them to one of the hair schools. the students would certainly appreciate them. i have two here that i'm keeping so my granddaughters can play on their hair when they come over.

I'm so excited for your trip this weekend, and can't wait to see pictures!
I agree about the middle mannequin, she looks a little like she had an over zealous plastic surgeon:P

This is so exciting! I can't wait to read how it turned out. I like the edgy looking mannequin. Who really looks as pretty as those twins? Movie stars? I think mannequins should looks WORSE than real life so you can see what you can really do. It's one thing to make a pretty face prettier. But come on.....
