We had a terrible storm yesterday. Em and her friends hid out in the basement. I was at work, wishing I was in a basement. There were no tornadoes in our area, just tornado watches. Four tornadoes touched down, but not near us. Lots of trees down and branches everywhere. Schools are closed in a couple of nearby counties because of power outages. Ours was out for about 4 hours. I got home around 6:30, and decided to walk. Then I tried running. It was hard, but I did it. I had to set little goals, like, I'd run to the stop sign. Then to the end of the block, then to the 6th tree, etc. I stopped to walk a few times, but only for a minute. I was very proud of myself. The power came back on just after dark. Thank goodness. Don't you just hate it when you lose power?

I got an early start and have been in my favorite coffee shop for about an hour. I've spent most of my time on the phone with my GA sister. My mom is waiting for me to come over, so I won't stay too long. The satellite dish fell off their roof during the storm, so no TV for them till at least tomorrow, and they watch TV all the time. I'm not sure what Mom and I will do besides go out to lunch. I'm out of ideas. I brought my book with me. Maybe we can sit outside and read for a while. My book club meeting is on Sunday, and I'm rereading the book, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I loved it the first time, and even more the second. I hope I finish it in time.

I just talked to my mom. She wants to go to Walmart for lipstick. I don't really want to go there. For lipstick? I think what we should do is come back to this shopping center that I'm at. Her scooter is working again. This is a great 'town center', an outdoor kind of mall place. It has Macy's, Sears, Barnes and Noble, Panera's, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc... All the stores you'd find in an indoor mall, but in a really nice open 'village'. And our favorite Chinese restaurant is here. I'm sure we can find lipstick somewhere.

Glad you and yours are all ok and none of the bad stuff touched you. This is the one bad thing about summer.....storms and tornadoes. Being without power is the pits! It seems like EVERYTHING you want to do involves power...unless its still daylight and you have a good book to read. Here's hoping the storms continue to miss you and me too!

That storm sure moved through quick. When we went out later there were trees and wires down all over the place.

Hope your Mom got her lipstick and you both had a happy day.

worst is when power goes out and stays out the night after you go grocery shopping and your fridge is loaded. but in that regard, get a surge protector with battery backup. Plug it into your outlet then plug your critical appliances into it - ie fridge, a light, etc. that way when power goes out it'll stay on for a little while at least.

I love the weather, but don't like dangerous storms. I like just some harmless thunder and lightning. Glad you and the girls are okay. Hope you got that lipstick. Mom's mother is always getting up tasks for her like getting makeup. This reminded me of her. My mother will sigh and hate to have to drive to Auburn to the mall for a special kind of makeup my grandmother likes. I chuckled reading this.

Weather out here is rain turning to showers (why do TV weatherpeople talk like that?)

It's June 5th for pete's sake and I'm wearing a sweater with a sweat coat over it.

Grrr

I LOVE THAT BOOK! I know you already know that, but that book is just so moving!!!!

Have you ever read MY SISTERS KEEPER??

I'm glad that you're all safe and sound..the weather cast did predict that this year will be rough with tornados due to the nasty winter! Be safe!!

Keep up the walking!! That's what I do, each day I stretch it a certain point! Do you stretch before and after you walk/jog?

I'm so happy for you!! You should have Em take a picture of You!! and then set a date-say at the end of July..and put on the same clothes..and then you'll be able to see change..

Congratulations on the exercise program. Keep at it. I am not much of a runner. I love running on the beach barefoot. I would run one set of garbage cans and walk the next. I finally got up to going several life guard stands. It took a while but I did it. I really prefer roller blading. And the gym. Love the gym.

We don't get many tornados down here. And if we do they are more water spouts. Bad thunder storms though. I think being so close to the ocean and having such great cross breezes all year long help. It does get windy.

Your lucky to still have your Mom. But I would draw the line at going to Walmart for lip stick. I can't stand Walmarts. I feel over whelmed.

I just bought a new camera. So I am going to be learning all weekend before I have to shoot a wedding on Sunday with it. Help!! I had my son and the dogs up on the beach during twilight checking on the light settings. I'm impressed.

Have an awesome weekend.

I didn't know MD was a tornado zone. I'm glad everything is ok, though. Good for you for getting out there and running, that's great. Little goals will get you to the big ones.

I hope your mom found her lipstick. It's fun to shop for makeup.

i heard them talkin about those tornadoes on the news.. yikes.
glad y'all are alright--

sorry, but i had to chuckle at you running-- in "just this much more's " --- cuz that's about how i would have to do it-- if i attempted it at all. i highly doubt i could make it around the block though. if my pain didn't kick in somewhere-- my chainsmoker lungs surely would. if i ever HAD to run for my life-- i'd prolly not survive. glad you DID :))
how far was it for ya?

where'd you end up goin with your mom? did ya get out of wal mart? i hope so-- i despise that place. i think the only person i actually know of that likes it is my mom in law. ugh.

ya know what? you kinda had me "this close" to joining one of those book club things"... i actually read about one that meets close by me. the only thing that stopped me was the book they were gonna start reading sounded like something written for an 80 year old. i know, titles can be deceiving, but i am such a non-reader--- if the title doesn't grab me.. i surely think it's safe to assume that the book won't either.
how often do you get forced to read a book that you hate?

anyhow-- hope you have happy friday
--- with NO storms-

Yeah girl, they have lots of lipstick at Macy's. Although with a Panera Bread and Barnes & Noble on hand I wouldn't want to spend any time at Macy's!
