28 August 2008

I've been bored, bored, and more bored since arriving home this afternoon. I've sat on the couch. Yup, that's about all I've done for hours. Watched Oprah with Emily. Watched the news. Caught up on blogs. Read a bunch of blogs I'd put into my 'favorites' that I don't keep up with. I made a quesadilla and had an Oreo Klondike. Watched ET. Boring. I'm full and tired. Can I go to bed so I can start over again tomorrow?

The day started out good. I made waffles for Emily. First time I ever made waffles. I borrowed Kelly's waffle maker...it was a good thing I put foil underneath because half the batter streamed out the sides. It got better with each batch. I left the house the same time Emily leaves for school, 6:40, and was at Panera's by my folks by 7 AM. I got to the folk's house at 9:30 and Mom and I left for IKEA. The couch she was so anxious to see was a great starter couch, but certainly not fine furniture. I'm glad I took her so she could see it for herself. We browsed the store with me pushing my mom in a wheelchair. She was my captive! My brother is a manager at IKEA and he joined us for a lunch of Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes. I was happy to finally leave and hope I don't have to go back for a long time. It's just too big.

I was thrilled to find cushions to fit my kitchen chairs. They cost less to buy then to have my old ones cleaned!

On an entirely different note, since I had my camera out, I took pictures of food in Debbie Meyer's stay fresh longer As Seen On TV, re-usable bags. I'm not entirely convinced that they work as advertised. I just bought the ones for bread, so I'll let you know.

That's it for me. Over and Out!

Do the vegetable bags work well?

Yea on what the other ladies said... let us know if those bags work. I always buy lots of bananas cuz the kids SWEAR they're gonna eat em. Most of the time they do, but sometimes they don't and I hate the waste.

Get some rest!

I haven't heard of those bags..but that's not a surprise.

I do love Ikea--=ONLINE!-+++--===
we went there one time with all three boys, and they lost power, we couldn't get upstairs to look at the displays..it was such a mission!

I tried to steer son #3 to IKEA for his starter stuff. I liked the prices, and since I was paying....

When IKEA first opened stores in the U.S. I read that we Americans were buying flower vases for drinking glasses, and that their things in general seemed too small for our tastes. I'd still like to visit a store, but none are near me. Is the food really as inexpensive as I hear?

I've been very curious about those bags too...will wait to hear how they work out.

Hope you have a wonderful Friday...hurray for long weekends!

Like everyone else, I want to know about the bags, too.

Is IKEA a furniture store? If so, I know exactly what you mean...we went to one recently that had SO MUCH, I just couldn't keep up -- finally ended up saying to Mark - have we already seen that one???--just too many, too similar...

Are you off for the weekend, or at least part of it?

Happy Friday...and were the waffles good? I love them, but haven't made them for years...

Hugs.

I have to say, I don't go through the whole store when we go to Ikea. I mainly stick with the housewares and kitchen stuff.

Yum - homemade waffles. I bet they were good.

I bought the bags and I am addicted!(because of you buying them) I have used the bread and fruit, the bread was still good and soft after a week when I would normally throw it out. Fruit ones not fair cause my family eats all the fruit in one day! Have a great weekend!

Oreo Klondikes?? YUM that sounds good! I love IKEA, but it can make for an exhausting trip. My favorite part are the little show rooms, I used to want the job of designing them. The waffles sound good too. My favorite breakfast, if a little labor intensive. (And I always borrow my mom's waffle maker which is ancient and can't be immersed in water so the cleaning is really the most labor.) Anyway..
Hope you guys have a happy weekend:)

Those waffles sound so good, Cheryl! I adore waffles. How sweet of you to make those for Emily!

RYC: I do sometimes rent or check out audio books, for long trips -- especially if I am traveling alone! I love them. Makes the ride so much more enjoyable. Just toodling around town though, it's always my tunes cranked up nice and loud.

I was just telling Andy yesterday that I want to get a waffle/panini maker! I love waffles and grilled sandwiches!

I throw chair cushions away too, rather than having them cleaned. It's a chance to change colors and add a bit of new "decor" to a room!

We've got the bags for bananas...I don't like them and here's why. The bananas don't get black nearly as quickly, but they still get really soft and they taste icky. I like my bananas a tad bit on the green side...they never stay like that for long. I make a lot of banana bread!! The bags do work for lettuce and veggies tho, I think! I don't have the bread bags. I just keep any extra bread in the freezer and even just get out a slice or two at a time. That seems to work best for us. Let us know how they work for bread tho.

:-)

Hi Cheryl.... We're staying put for this storm. I'm thinking we may be regreting that decision big time tomorrow but we've been through some bad storms before. Here's hoping.

BTW, contraflow is a well-known word in these parts -- unfortunately. Take care.
