Have I mentioned how boring my life is? I don't mean that I'm bored, it's just that I do the same things over and over again. I live a routine-filled existence. Here it is, a Saturday night, and I'm alone, as usual. Alone, but not lonely. That's the key thing. It really doesn't take much to make me happy. Time spent outdoors. Time on my computer. At Border's, Panera's or some other coffee shop. Doing this or that around the house. Simple things. The thing is, though, that when I'm not at work, I'm doing it all alone. Yes, I have my daughter, but she's a teenager, and not into hanging out with me. Unless I'm taking her shopping. So I kind of have two lives...the very social one I have at work, and the solitary one away from it. At work I'm surrounded by people. And, I'm constantly talking. It's part of my job. All of my clients request my company. Well, that's one way of looking at it. Of course they're there for me to do their hair, but that's only a part of it. They could go anywhere to have their hair done, but they choose me. I try to treat each client as very special, because they really are. I depend on them not only for the income they provide me, but for the social acceptance I gain from them. I enjoy their company. They make me feel like I'm an interesting person to be around. I need that. I think one of the reasons I like Panera's so much is that I'm surrounded by people there. And, I really think that's the kind of place I'll meet someone. So, when you hear I'm at Panera's or Border's, know that it's not just for the coffee....

you never know who you might meet through your job,Tim is my daycare parents brother. maybe one of your clients has a brother...Good luck!
I wish you were my hairdresser. I've never had a regular one. I have trouble with consistency I guess. I almost had one until they moved. The next one that I went to more than once, changed salons, and another one moved once again. I don't get my hair cut often due to funds or time so it's hard for me to find someone regular. I'm sure you are wonderful and if I ever make up to your area, I'd love for you to have your way with my hair. (Don't be surprised if I do get up there at some point... I'm reckless that way!)
I work from my home so I miss the social contact of the workplace. I found that as my kids got older and were involved with their own lives, I didn't have enough social contact. I'm real active in an intensive parenting group and that work involves a lot of personal contact.
I don't have much of a social life anymore. Most of my life long friends live on the east coast in Jersey, Connecticut DC or New York. I have some friends here, but most of them are pretty busy, and we're kind of busy too with our youngin. It would be nice to be friends with some people that had a youngin that's the same age as our youngin. Hopefully we'll meet up with some of them eventually. Until then I think I'll suck back a beer and enjoy my solitude. ;)
In the end boredom really is a relative feeling - but then again, what isn't?
hi cheryl, most times, i go places by myself, but not necessarily because i want to. i love your attitude about your job and your clients. i'm near upper marlboro; what part of MD are you in?
I think you are a great person Cheryl, I love your blog. I know what you mean about teens, you are right---they don't want to hang out with their parents. You will meet someone, and he will be just right. In the meantime, I think your attitude is just great. I don't know about you, but I like the routine in my life. It helps to keep me sane. I am a new reader but I will be back. :)
Boring is sometimes a good place to be... it is without all the drama that makes for a crazy existence. To me, same old.. is a good thing!
New to your blog as well, enjoy your day to day posts.
Good luck finding that special someone...
I know if you didn't have routine in your life, you wouldn't like it. That's a huge part of who you are. I have heard you state so many times how you like routine. There's nothing wrong with that. I think that is a special quality about you.
You have awesome clients, I am sure. I agree with Annabel. If I ever get a chance to meet you, I am going to let you loose when doing my hair. BTW, you would love Annabel's hair. It's very pretty.
So you don't have Mr. Right banging on your front door right now. It's better than having Mr. Wrong popping up. ;)
I like routine too and I think most of us do. I think to be happy with every day things is a great way to be. There is a saying that goes something like, Enjoy the small things in life, for they may turn out to be the big things after all. Don't know the exact quote but you get the idea.
Enjoy your day.
I just may stop in one day for a haircut! Where you work, is there a bird store by it?
I think you've got the perfect attitude on life. And you never know where you might meet someone, those chance meetings tend to sneak up on a person...
My life is a lot like yours. Teens that don't care to hang out with me. I've been working on making new connections on the social level and sometimes it's not easy. In my case I crave solitude at time becuase I'm constantly interacting with people on the job. but I do enjoy the company of friends.
see you at Panera Bread
I've been telling my divorced aunt for years to go to a coffee house to meet nice people..she doesn't do coffee..she's into tea she says. :)
Cute post..I love how even in your writtings you can see your personality hidden behind your words!
Always,
Crusty~
My life is similar to yours Cheryl, in that I am around people and dealing with people all day, but come home to a house of absolute quiet. Actually, I love it! Though sometimes those weekend evenings can be rough. I think you are a wise woman to be looking for social interaction at the coffee place instead of at a bar! ;-) I do a lot of simple things by routine, that doesn't necessarily equate to boring - it just adds up to "me"! :-)
I spend a lot of time alone too. You are lucky to have a job which fufills your social side! If we are talking where I work that means the job isn't getting done!
