Besides starting early and working late, it turned out to be a great day. My first client was so talkative, and interesting, and the time flew by. She loved her new highlights, and so did I. My new client had been referred to me by a client I like a lot. She came in with very long, wavy hair that I thought looked pretty good to start with. I envisioned putting an angle in the front and long layers in the back and just giving the length a little trim. What she wanted was chin length hair, shorter in the back then the front. Whoa. We talked about it, and I told her that when I saw her hair wet and started working with it, that it would kind of speak to me. Do you know what I mean? It was hard to envision anything with it so long and dry. She got it shampooed, took off her glasses, and I went to work. It took about an hour to cut her hair. She couldn't see a thing without her glasses, so she had no idea what it looked like. Have I ever mentioned that I like doing new clients that wear glasses? They can't 'see' me work! Finally, I was done, and she put her glasses on. She was so HAPPY! She said it looked better than she could have ever imagined. She almost started to cry. She got up and gave me a hug. Lots of stylists had been watching the haircut when they saw how much was coming off, and everyone loved it. When she left I whipped out my camera so I could take a pic and show you how much hair was on the floor.
Amazing, huh? It really made my day.
It was great seeing my old friend later in the day. As I thought, there was no way I could stay on time with her and wound up getting out an hour late. It was good to catch up. She wanted to go out afterwards, but I was too tired.
So...I'm pooped. I'm heading upstairs to rest up for my busy day tomorrow.

All hail the hair maestro! You must take so much satisfaction from your work, Cheryl. I am pleased as punch your day went so well. I kept thinking, "Well, Cheryl should update soon and it will be so interesting to see how her day went." Thank you for sharing it with us.
oh, I LOVE when you work your magic...I've been thinking about color myself....hmmmmm
I admire your special combo of skill and understanding. Hair therapy sure can do wonders for a girl's outlook. I never considered the stylist felt the same way.
Do you make housecalls to Texas?
you made her day and she made yours. i wish you could show some befores & afters so we could ooh & aah.
That was a big change for her! So much hair. It takes a lot out of someone to give up their long hair. And look, you did a great job and made it a wonderful experience for her. Good on you!
Have a good night!
I think you have the hardest job, and it sounds like you do it wonderfully. I often wonder how many women will really "let" you do anything with their hair at all, as most of us get so worked up about our hair...
I hope your Saturday is wonderful, and that you have a couple of great days off after!
That's more hair than I've ever had in my entire life! I'm glad it went well, I wish we could have seen the finished product.
I'm with Hensteeth, when you're done in Texas could you come to Washington?! That is the best story; I'm so glad it went well.
Have a great weekend!

holy crap! that's a LOT of long hair on the floor. It's great that you made her so happy!
I too think it would have been nice to see before and after pictures.
I'm glad your day went so well and that your new client was so happy with her new hairstyle.
Next time you are by the mill look for the house with the yellow RR sign in the red gravel driveway.
Hmmmm, I'd love to have you design a 'do' for me. Perhaps I can arrange an appointment when/if I get plans in place to visit G-Street Fabrics. I love those stores. No one who knows me would ever be nervous about doing my hair. I'm probably more laid-back than anyone you ever met. (I'm doing a small interior design project for a friend and am having no luck finding just the right fabrics. G-Street never let me down.)
Cool. If I get a hair cut right now, tht pile down there probably resemble mine. I have not gotten a cut for 2 years I think. If u meet me, my hair would be probably be ur worst nightmare :)
Have a nice weekend. My stomach is growling right now so bye!!
If I were a hairdresser, my favorite thing would be to sweep up the hair off the floor. But I would HATE shampooing someone's head. I left you more guesses on my comments page. :)
You're going to make me cry..that's awesome!!
I intentionally never look "at" the mirror when my stylist is adding color, afterwards and while he snips snips...I want to be surprised each and everytime..
I am what you would say one of those that can walk in and say, let's change it, go drastic, do whatever you want, but just don't give me too much time with the round brush..and they work their magic each time!!
Always,
Crusty
that's a lot of hair!! The kind I've always wanted, naturally. :)
Good job for you!!!
